Frequently Asked
Questions
How old does someone need to
be in order to receive an adjustment?
Any age person
may need an adjustment. Babies are sometimes in need of adjustment from the
delivery process. The delivery process can be very forceful and abrupt.
Dr. Miller has adjusted babies as young as 2 days old. Children can knock
themselves out of normal spinal alignment with normal activities. The oldest
person adjusted by Dr. Miller was 94 years young.
Will I have to wear a
hospital gown?
Probably not.
About the only time gowns are used is if you require an X-ray of an area where
normal clothing would obstruct the picture or an area cannot be evaluated by
any other means.
What should I wear?
Comfortable
clothing is best. Visit our
Office Visit page to see adjustments of real patients.
Will I be adjusted on the
first visit, or do you wait so you can "think about it?"
Unfortunately,
the medical world has become "just a business" in many areas. The "let me think
about it" that you hear is simply a ploy to get you to pay for two visits and
only get one adjustment. We don't play games with our patients.
You will be
evaluated and treated on your first visit. The initial consultation fee could
include an evaluation, roller table, stimulation (if indicated), and
adjustment. The only extra charge would be for X-rays, braces or nutritional
supplements.
How many visits will it
take?
In some cases,
one visit can resolve your problem. In others, it requires multiple
treatments. Each condition is different, and each patient is unique. We don't
use the cookie-cutter "programs" used by many chiropractors. You're not a
cookie. The "programs" are simply a method of committing the patient to a
financial obligation for treatments they may not need.
What is the difference in
treatment between a chiropractor (DC) and a medical doctor (MD)?
Medical doctors
(MD's) primarily treat your symptoms with drugs. If you have a sinus infection,
you'll be given a prescription for an antibiotic. If you still have symptoms at
the end of the prescription, you'll go back in for re-evaluation and probably be
given an extended prescription.
If you have
pain, you'll probably be prescribed a pain reliever.
Doctors
of Chiropractic (DC) treat the cause of your symptoms.
If you have
pain, we'll look for the source of that pain, which is often an alignment
problem, and treat that with an adjustment to relieve pressure off a pinched
nerve. The pain may return and have to be treated again. The reason is that
when your body is out of alignment and left that way, it tends to stay that
way. Think of bending a coat hanger. You can straighten it, but as soon as you
release it, it will tend to go back toward its previously bent position. It may
require bending several times before it is straight again.
There are
many things that require an MD. However, many problems can be resolved in a
natural, homeopathic way with chiropractic. Chiropractic is usually
considerably less expensive and doesn't subject your body to drugs which you
might have a negative or side affect from taking.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept
Medicare, Workers Comp, and Auto Accident Insurance, as well as Medical Savings
cards and Flex plans. If you have health insurance, we will provide you with a
receipt to submit to your carrier for reimbursement; however, we choose to not
accept your health insurance as payment to keeping the excessive cost reigned in
-- less paperwork for us, equals less cost for you. Our usual cost of $40
is a lot of insurance companies' co-pay charges. The reason is simple --
insurance companies can easily delay payment by a year or more to healthcare
providers and doctors, and we can provide treatment at lower rates for everyone
by letting you file your health insurance yourself.
